AMD Ryzen AI “Medusa Point 1” Processors Leak with Up to 22 Cores
New AMD Ryzen AI processors, codenamed “Medusa Point 1”, are expected to arrive with up to 22 cores using the new Zen 6 architecture.
A leak has revealed that the most powerful Ryzen 9 model will feature two CCDs (Core Complex Dies). One will have 12 high-performance cores, while the other will have 4 classic Zen 6 cores, 4 dense Zen 6 cores, and 2 LP cores (low power cores).
GPU and Architecture Details
Meanwhile, the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 Medusa Point 1 models will use just one CCD, which includes 4 classic Zen 6 cores, 4 dense Zen 6 cores, and 2 LP cores. This setup introduces a new distribution of cores that AMD has not used before, which is similar to what Intel uses in their Lunar Lake processors for low power usage.
As for the GPU, the leak suggests that it will come with 8 compute units (CUs) and an architecture called “RDNA 3.5+”. While RDNA 3.5 was already a slight upgrade from RDNA 3, this new plus version may offer some minor improvements, though nothing too groundbreaking. In fact, the CUs are half the number compared to what is found in the Ryzen AI MAX 395+ processor.
