Hideo Kojima Confirms No DLC or Expansions for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, But Promises Ongoing Support
In a new episode of Koji10, Hideo Kojima discussed the possibility of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach getting downloadable content (DLC) or expansions after its release. Kojima revealed that, at this moment, there are no plans for such additions to the game.
Kojima kept things a bit vague by saying that there are currently no plans for any DLC or additional episodes after the game is launched. While this doesn’t entirely rule out the possibility, it suggests that fans shouldn’t expect any major expansions, especially given the structure of the game and Kojima’s usual approach to storytelling.
Considering the strong, fixed narrative style of Kojima’s games, if there are “no plans” for future expansions, it is unlikely that any will be added later. Kojima has always had full control over the stories in his games, making it rare for him to change the narrative after release.
Support After Launch
Historically, Kojima has not been very inclined to add extra story content through expansions, though this doesn’t rule out the chance of other types of additional content.
Kojima Productions has assured fans that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will continue to be supported after launch with technical updates and various improvements. This is to ensure the game evolves and addresses any technical issues. However, there doesn’t seem to be any intention to expand the game’s story with major new content after the release.
As Kojima put it, “As for DLC – right now, there aren’t any plans. That kind of thing isn’t really the trend anymore, is it? I’m not sure though. Before, we used to add stuff post-launch pretty regularly. But now – maybe there will be something like that.”
What’s Next for the Game
Despite the lack of expansions, Kojima confirmed that the game will get ongoing support after its release. “After the release at the end of June, if any bug pops up – we’ll fix them. We’ll keep improving the game. We might even create something that didn’t exist at all in the first game. Who knows. I can’t say for sure right now.”
In the same episode, Kojima also explained that the game originally planned to include a hair and beard growth system for the main character. However, this idea was removed because it could interfere with the management of Norman Reedus’ image, the actor who plays the lead role.
