AMD Justifies the Launch of Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB Despite Mixed Reactions
AMD recently launched the Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB graphics card, but it did not receive the warm welcome the company had expected. Despite the mixed reactions, AMD defends the decision to release this variant, claiming there is a market for it, though many people remain unconvinced.
With gaming requirements continuing to rise, the 8GB VRAM is becoming less adequate, especially for higher resolutions. Many gamers now believe that 12GB or even 16GB of VRAM is necessary to achieve the best quality and smooth performance in modern games.
AMD’s Explanation for the 8GB Version
Despite the concerns, AMD has stood by its decision. According to Frank Azor (thanks Wccftech), AMD’s Chief Gaming Architect, the company claims that most gamers don’t need more than 8GB of VRAM. He mentioned that if gamers needed more, AMD would have made graphics cards with larger memory sizes.
Furthermore, AMD believes that while the 16GB version may be the more popular option, the 8GB version still has a place in the market. It is mainly targeted at gamers who use 1080p monitors, where the 8GB memory is usually sufficient. Essentially, the only difference between the 8GB and 16GB versions of the RX 9060 XT is the memory size.
When it comes to pricing, Frank Azor feels that the $50 difference between the two variants is reasonable, representing just 15% of the official retail price (MSRP). However, the issue that many users are raising is the potential confusion caused by having two cards with the same name but different memory sizes. This is a strategy that AMD has not used before but is commonly seen with Nvidia graphics cards.
